Roenis Elias Traded from Red Sox to Mariners for Future Considerations
The Boston Red Sox have traded reliever Roenis Elias to the Seattle Mariners, per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. Boston will receive either a player to be named later or cash considerations in return for Monday's deal.
The left-hander has spent this season playing for the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox and hasn't seen much major league playing time since 2016. He posted one walk and one strikeout in his only appearance for Boston in 2017.
Elias allowed 11 earned runs in 7.2 innings for the Red Sox in 2016, clearly never helping as much as the team hoped when they traded for him in 2015 as part a return for Wade Miley.

However, the 29-year-old has performed well so far in Triple-A this season, posting a 1.23 ERA in 7.1 innings, adding nine strikeouts with just two walks.
The Cuban will now get a chance to return to the organization that first signed him as an amateur in 2011. He moved quickly through the system as a starter and was in the majors by 2014, going 10-12 with a 3.85 ERA as a rookie.
While he has been up and down since then, he could be a major help to the Mariners if he can regain some of his past magic.
Seattle is 11-9 entering Monday, but the team has really struggled on the mound, ranking 25th in the league with a 4.81 ERA. The starters have especially struggled, with the four main guys in the rotation all maintaining a 4.50 ERA or worse. Even former Cy Young winner Felix Hernandez has a 5.06 ERA.
Elias could potentially provide immediate help out of the bullpen or in the rotation after a slow start to the year for the Mariners.
