Joel Embiid Listed as Doubtful to Play in Game 3 vs. Heat Because of Eye Injury
Joel Embiid is apparently not done being "babied."
The Philadelphia 76ers listed their All-Star center as doubtful for Thursday's Game 3 matchup against the Miami Heat as he continues to recover from an orbital bone fracture in his left eye.
Embiid, 24, has missed the team's last 10 games after suffering the injury in a March 28 win over the New York Knicks. Ersan Ilyasova likely will continue to start in his place, with Amir Johnson getting additional minutes off the bench.
The Sixers reeled off wins in their first nine games without Embiid, but Miami stole home-court advantage from them with a 113-103 victory in Game 2. Afterward, Embiid took to Instagram to say he's "f--king sick and tired of being babied."
He later clarified the comments to say his post came out of competitive frustration.
"I promised the city the playoffs and I'm not on the court, and I may not be on Thursday either," Embiid told ESPN.com's Ramona Shelburne. "I wish more than anything that I was out there. I just want the green light to play."
The Sixers did not appear to take umbrage with Embiid's comments. Head coach Brett Brown said they reflect private conversations the two have had.
"He just wants to play basketball," Brown told reporters. "He wants to be with his team. He wants to play in front of the fans. He wants to see this through. When he's not able to do that, he gets frustrated."
Embiid has been limited to just 94 games over his first four NBA seasons due to injury.
