Brett Brown 'Neutral' on Joel Embiid's Status to Return from Injury for Game 3
Philadelphia 76ers head coach Brett Brown isn't committing one way or the other on Joel Embiid's status for Game 3 of the Sixers' Eastern Conference playoff series against the Miami Heat on Thursday.
Per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Brown said he is "neutral" about Embiid's odds of playing. He added the star center's official status for the game is still undetermined.
Embiid hasn't played since March 28 against the New York Knicks when he suffered a fractured orbital bone in a collision with teammate Markelle Fultz.
ESPN's Ramona Shelburne reported Sunday that Embiid had cleared the NBA's concussion protocol but was being held out of Game 2. The Heat got a 113-103 win in the second game to even the series at one game apiece before heading to American Airlines Arena in Miami for Game 3.
Following the Sixers' loss in Game 2, Embiid wrote in an Instagram story (via Zach Harper of FanRag Sports) he was "f--king sick and tired of being babied."
Embiid has been with the 76ers since they drafted him No. 3 overall in 2014. The 24-year-old has appeared in 94 games over the past two years after missing each of his first two seasons due to injuries.
He led Philadelphia with 22.9 points and 11.0 rebounds per game this year. The 76ers are in the postseason for the first time since the 2011-12 season.
