Jeff Hornacek, Knicks to Discuss Future; HC Hopes to Return to NY Next Season

Adam WellsApr 11, 2018

While the New York Knicks have yet to determine head coach Jeff Hornacek's status, he would like to be back with the team for the 2018-19 season.

Speaking to reporters prior to Wednesday's season finale against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Hornacek said he wants the chance to fulfill his original contract with the Knicks:

"That's why you sign contracts. I have one more year," he said, per ESPN.com. "We'd love to continue with these guys and get some of the guys healthy and get back at it and continue that process. We didn't think it was going to be a one-year turnaround. That's our thoughts. That's what we'll continue to look at."

Hornacek added he intends to take part in Thursday's exit meetings with players and coaches to discuss the season and future with the Knicks.

Marc Stein of the New York Times reported on March 21 there aren't many NBA observers who believe Hornacek will return to the Knicks next season, citing general manager Scott Perry's desire to "install his own hand-picked" head coach.

Per Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News, Hornacek shoved Joakim Noah at a Knicks practice in January in an altercation related to the center's desire to receive more playing time.

Since being hired by the Knicks prior to the start of last season, Hornacek has gone 59-104 with the team. Their 53 losses this season are tied for the fourth-most in franchise history, and this is the fifth straight season in which they have missed the postseason.
