Masters Leaderboard 2018: Twitter Reacts to Results and Standings from Sunday

Patrick Reed earned his first major championship with a final-round 71 to fend off Rickie Fowler, Jordan Spieth and Jon Rahm to win the 2018 Masters.

The 27-year-old, who entered Sunday with a three-stroke lead, didn't deliver the barrage of birdies he produced in the second and third rounds, but he came up with massive putts on the back nine.

The first important putt of the round came at the 12th, as he got back to 14 under with a long birdie:

Another birdie at the 14th put Reed at 15 under and separated him from the group of contenders, which was trimmed down to Fowler and Spieth by the end of the round.

He capped off his incredible week at Augusta with a par at the 18th:

Fowler recorded six birdies in the final round, including one on the 18th to put an added amount of pressure on Reed:

However, the late surge came up one shot short.

Spieth shot 64 with nine birdies, including four on the back nine:

The 2015 Masters champion pushed himself to the top of the leaderboard with a magnificent birdie at the par-five 15th, which was similar to Jack Nicklaus' putt in 1975, as Sports Illustrated pointed out:

However, a bogey on the 18th killed any chances.

Sports Illustrated's Alan Shipnuck added perspective on Spieth's round, noting his bad putts at No. 13 and No. 18 being his downfall:

Spieth's 64 was the best round of the day, as he beat out Englishman Paul Casey by one stroke. Casey carded a 65 thanks to two birdies and an eagle in Amen Corner, making him the sixth golfer to make it through the 11th, 12th and 13th holes in eight strokes:

Tiger Woods entered Augusta with plenty of fanfare, but he was never a contender in his first appearance at the Masters since 2015.

Despite finishing over par for the tournament, Woods recorded a final-round 69, his first round under par of the weekend. His 33 on the back nine was his best performance on the final nine holes at Augusta in his career on a Sunday, per ESPN Stats & Info:

Woods' longtime foe, Phil Mickelson, ended up one stroke behind him after producing a 67 out of Sunday's third pairing. Mickelson used a nice approach shot at No. 17 to record his last birdie of the round:

Golf's top players return to the national spotlight in June, when they attempt to conquer Shinnecock Hills Golf Club at the 2018 U.S. Open.
