Cameron Meredith, Saints Reportedly Agree to 2-Year Offer Sheet; Bears Can Match
The New Orleans Saints reportedly signed Chicago Bears' restricted free agent Cameron Meredith to an offer sheet Friday.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported the news, pointing out there is a familiarity in place between the team and pass-catcher considering Saints wide receivers coach Curtis Johnson was Meredith's former wide receivers coach in the Windy City.
Schefter noted the offer sheet was for two years and about $10 million, although the Bears have the opportunity to match if they want to keep Meredith aboard.

This isn't the first restricted free agent the Bears have watched sign an offer sheet this offseason, as they matched an offer from the Green Bay Packers to keep cornerback Kyle Fuller.
Meredith presents an interesting decision from Chicago's perspective because he led the team with 66 catches for 888 yards and four touchdowns in 2016 and is just 25 years old. However, he missed the entire 2017 season with a torn ACL and plays a position the Bears went to great lengths to address this offseason.
Chicago finished dead last in the league in receiving yardage last year, often relying on the rushing attack and short throws from rookie quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, especially with Meredith sidelined.
It added Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel and tight end Trey Burton to bolster Trubisky's weapons heading into the 2018 campaign, though, suggesting Meredith isn't quite as necessary if there are still concerns about his health.
If he was to sign with the Saints, he would likely find himself consistently facing single coverage thanks to the presence of wide receiver Michael Thomas and a running back in Alvin Kamara who is a dangerous pass-catcher out of the backfield. That is a recipe for success with quarterback Drew Brees under center.
