Report: Warriors President Rick Welts Makes 2018 Basketball Hall of Fame Class

Golden State Warriors president Rick Welts will reportedly be among the inductees in the 2018 Basketball Hall of Fame class, according to Marc Stein of the New York Times.

Welts' potential selection comes two days after ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, Grant Hill and Maurice Cheeks have been notified they will be inducted. ESPN's Chris Haynes added that Tina Thompson (WNBA) is expected to be included as well.

Welts has been in the NBA for over 40 years, primarily as an executive. He has been the Warriors' president for the past five seasons, winning two NBA championships with the franchise in 2015 and 2017.

Prior to joining the Warriors, Welts worked in the NBA league office from 1982-99 and spent nine years with the Phoenix SunsPer NBA.com, Welts is credited with creating the NBA's All-Star Weekend in 1984 when the first Slam Dunk Contest was held.

The full list of inductees in the 2018 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame class will be officially announced Saturday during the Final Four in San Antonio. This year's ceremony will take place Sept. 7 at Springfield Symphony Hall in Springfield, Massachusetts.
