Report: Giants Aren't Shopping Odell Beckham Jr., Trade 'Probably Won't Happen'

Kyle NewportMar 27, 2018

While there has been plenty of recent speculation about Odell Beckham Jr.'s future in the Big Apple, the trade rumors surrounding the polarizing star may be overblown.

According to NFL Network's Kimberly Jones, the New York Giants are not shopping Beckham, and a trade "probably won't happen."

Beckham is entering the final year of his rookie contract. Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the wideout will not set foot on a field unless the team gives him a new pact.

Any team that wants Beckham will have to pay up, however. Per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the three-time Pro Bowler wants $20 million per season:

Beckham has been one of the league's best receivers in his four years, hauling in 4,424 yards and 38 touchdowns. Those numbers could've been bigger had it not been for an ankle injury that limited him to four games last season.

As talented as he is, his off-field actions have New York exploring its options. From his sideline outbursts to his bizarre relationship with a kicking net to a questionable hotel room video, there are concerns about the wideout—especially if a team has to invest $20 million annually in him.

Giants co-owner John Mara, per ESPN.com's Kevin Seifert, said he isn't sure if Beckham will remain on the roster in 2018, noting he is "tired of answering questions about Odell's behavior." On Tuesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter passed along Giants coach Pat Shurmur's comment on the wideout's situation: "He's on our team right now."

There's no doubt the squad is better with Beckham on the field, although the haul it could get in a trade would allow it to address multiple holes. New York isn't committing to keeping Eli Manning's top target, but it could also be using negotiating tactics. The Giants will have to decide just how much they value Beckham and how much more they are willing to put up with.
