The Los Angeles Rams have picked up the fifth-year contract option on cornerback Marcus Peters' rookie deal on Tuesday.

The team announced Tuesday it had picked up Peters' option, as well as that of running back Todd Gurley.

Peters was acquired by Los Angeles at the start of the new league year.

The No. 18 overall pick in the 2015 draft has been impressive to start his career. He has made the Pro Bowl two out of his first three seasons, with a first-team All-Pro nod in 2016.

In 2017, he recorded 46 combined tackles, five interceptions, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and nine passes defended. That gives him a total of 19 interceptions, six forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries and 55 passes defended in just three years. That's the perfect example of a game-changer.

Besides his talent, his availability has been key early on. He has missed just three games in three years—and only one due to injury, as a hip pointer forced him to sit out one week in 2016.

Most teams would love to have a defensive back with that kind of resume at the age of 25—but non-football related issues got him a one-way ticket out of Kansas City. For example, Chiefs coach Andy Reid suspended Peters for a game last season after the player threw a ref's flag into the stands.

Kansas City eventually grew tired of Peters, shipping away the All-Pro corner for a couple of draft picks. Los Angeles isn't too concerned about any potential issues, however, as it has decided the star is worth the risk, at least for one more year.
