Giannis Antetokounmpo Won't Return vs. Clippers After Suffering Ankle Injury

Tim DanielsMar 21, 2018

Milwaukee Bucks superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo suffered a sprained right ankle in the second quarter of Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Clippers at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

The team noted the injury on Twitter, announcing he would not return to the game. He exited the game with 12 points, two rebounds, two assists and three blocks.

Antetokounmpo has continued his rise from a role player as a rookie during the 2013-14 season into one of the NBA's most complete players right now. He currently ranks fourth in the league in Player Efficiency Rating, per ESPN, to establish himself as a legitimate MVP candidate.

The 23-year-old Greece native has remained mostly durable since the Bucks selected him with the 15th overall pick in 2013. He missed just 10 games across his first four years. While he previously dealt with knee, ankle and eye issues this season, he avoided any major setbacks.

If the latest ailment keeps him on the sideline, Jabari Parker should see his most extensive action to date since returning from a torn ACL in February. It could also lead to more minutes for Thon Maker and D.J. Wilson as part of the team's frontcourt rotation.

Ultimately, the Bucks are a team trending toward contention in the Eastern Conference with most of their key players either in or about to enter their prime. They won't be quite as dangerous for as long as Antetokounmpo in out of the lineup, though.
