WWE Elimination Chamber 2018 Results: Rebooking Match Card from Raw PPV
As one of the most important steps on the road to WWE WrestleMania 34, Elimination Chamber was a vital pay-per-view which, unfortunately, missed a few crucial steps.
The company pulled few surprises on Sunday night, with the overall feeling heading out of the show being one of predictability.
Both Chamber matches went the way many expected, and while that was fine in one instance, the main event felt like a bout that could have been easily improved upon.
So with that in mind, here's a look at how best to rebook key aspects of Elimination Chamber 2018—with the exception of one bout, Asuka vs. Nia Jax, which was the standout contest of the night.
Let's dive in.
Women's Elimination Chamber Match
1 of 4In terms of getting all the results right at the Elimination Chamber, WWE had a mixed night.
However, one result that was right was Alexa Bliss retaining her Raw Women's Championship and moving on to a probable match against Asuka at WrestleMania.
But how could the company have improved the finer details of the bout?
Clearly, there is a slow build to Bayley vs. Sasha Banks at Mania, with their relationship undoubtedly in rocky territory. That was showcased at Elimination Chamber, but it would have been better had it been done to much more devastating effect.
WWE should have had Bayley and Banks' brawling cost one, or even both, of them the match. There was a golden opportunity to take out Bliss and remove the champion from the equation, but their in-fighting saw them miss that opportunity.
That should have been made much clearer on the night, though.
The Bar vs. Titus Worldwide
2 of 4It's difficult to do anything different in what was arguably the most underwhelming bout of the night.
Did WWE get the winning team right? Without a doubt.
There's no way Titus Worldwide are ready to headline Raw's tag division just yet. While they've shown promise and potential as a faction, handing them the belts on the eve of WrestleMania would have been a mistake.
The Bar are Raw's standard-setters right now. They have knocked off some good teams along the way to becoming tag champs, and they're ready for a fresh challenge at WrestleMania.
That should come in the form of The Revival.
Matt Hardy vs. Bray Wyatt
3 of 4We know from what happened on Raw on Monday that Matt Hardy vs. Bray Wyatt isn't done just yet.
That will no doubt provoke a mixed reaction among WWE fans.
This feud has flattered to deceive so far, and it hasn't captured the imagination of many despite its promise when Hardy's "Woken" gimmick launched a few months ago.
But even though Matt won at Elimination Chamber, was that completely the right move? Given how Hardy's gimmick is still in its infancy in terms of its lifespan and potential, he would have been far better taking the loss here.
Wyatt's character has stumbled around aimlessly for almost a year now, ever since he surrendered the WWE Championship.
He needs direction and, more importantly, wins. If he scores one back over Hardy at Mania, that will at least be something. But he should have been the victor on Sunday.
Men's Elimination Chamber Match
4 of 4There is an obvious way to rebook the main event of Elimination Chamber—and it starts and ends with who has their hand raised at the end of the contest.
In truth, WWE got many of the finer aspects of Sunday's bout on the money. They afforded more time and more of the spotlight to newer talent such as Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman, telling an interesting story about John Cena's veteran struggles alongside that.
Strowman rightly tore through the entire field, but if he did that, surely it would have been smart for WWE to deliver fully on his potential for once?
Too many times, Strowman has come up short in big bouts. This was the latest instalment of that, and this time, he inevitably had to take a pinfall and a defeat at the expense of Roman Reigns.
Critics will argue it's a lazy piece of booking to simply change the winner and put Strowman in Reigns' spot. However, it would have been the smartest piece of booking WWE has done in years—because The Monster Among Men taking down Brock Lesnar would have been spectacular at WrestleMania.
