WWE Elimination Chamber 2018 Results: Ronda Rousey Era Begins and Top Takeaways
Predictability ruled at WWE Elimination Chamber 2018.
The company did little in the way of swerving its fans and providing any moments of genuine surprise.
While the show had its fun moments and high points, in the end the company's plans for WrestleMania took a fairly straightforward step on Sunday night.
With Ronda Rousey's official contract signing and two Chamber matches, there were plenty of things for fans to get excited about.
Ultimately, though, the event delivered exactly what many expected.
Here's a look at the top takeaways from Sunday's show.
Nia Jax Won't Go Away Quietly
1 of 4Asuka's undefeated streak may have continued on Sunday night, but don't expect Nia Jax to fade into the background when it comes to the title picture at WrestleMania 34.
It looks almost certain Asuka will face Alexa Bliss for the Raw Women's Championship, but you can still envisage a way in which WWE pushes Jax into the mix.
She's too good, and too promising, to be left with no real plans to speak of at Mania. With Bayley vs. Sasha Banks looking a lock the closer we get to April 8, Jax would be out in the cold, so to speak.
More performances like the one she delivered on Sunday, as well as her post-match attack on Asuka, will surely convince WWE she is worthy of being added to the title mix.
And adding a third participant also allows WWE to keep Asuka's streak intact should the company opt for another champion heading out of Mania.
Raw's Tag Division Needs Fresh Blood
2 of 4WWE got the booking right in having Sheamus and Cesaro retain their Raw tag titles on Sunday night, but it all felt a bit flat when it came to the brand's tag division.
Pushing Titus Worldwide into the slot of tag title contenders was a surprise to say the least. They've been pretty low down the pecking order for a while, and in that regard it was clear they probably wouldn't leave Elimination Chamber with the belts.
Where next for The Bar, though, and where next for the tag division?
It's time the company pushed some other teams into the spotlight. The Revival have been underused since coming up from NXT, while Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson remain a team fans can get behind.
A multi-team bout at WrestleMania will give those guys, as well as some others, a chance to shine.
Right now, Raw's tag division needs freshening up.
A Predictable End to a Predictable Main Event
3 of 4The script was almost too obvious in Sunday's main event.
Braun Strowman would continue where he's left off from the last few weeks, going on a tear and destroying almost all of the field at Elimination Chamber before Roman Reigns edged him out at the conclusion of the match.
In the end, that was exactly what happened.
This was disappointing for a number of reasons. First of all, while Reigns facing Brock Lesnar has been on the cards for months now, there was perhaps a glimmer of hope in the minds of some fans that WWE would switch things at the last minute and have Strowman face The Beast Incarnate at WrestleMania.
Furthermore, Strowman standing tall at the end of the show just didn't cut it. It was clear what WWE was trying to do—give The Monster Among Men some momentum to build from on his own road to WrestleMania.
However, the company has dropped the ball on arguably its most promising, dominant force just to put Reigns over again. For the fourth year in a row, he will headline WrestleMania.
This time, though, it feels more wrong than ever.
WWE Nails Ronda Rousey Segment
4 of 4It started slowly, but boy did it heat up quick.
Ronda Rousey's official debut as a WWE competitor initially got off to a rocky start, with a humble, babyface promo where she spoke about Roddy Piper and making his family proud.
It was a nice touch, but the problem here was simple—that's not the Ronda Rousey so many people know and love.
Rousey is bad. She's mean. She's ruthless. And when that side of her came out on Sunday night, the crowd were hot for it to say the least.
It's clear now WWE is booking her into a match with Triple H and Stephanie McMahon at WrestleMania. Judging by what happened on Sunday, Raw general manager Kurt Angle looks like being her partner.
And you know what? That's a good starting point for the former UFC star to work from. This was the part of the night which had the most potential to go wrong. In the end, WWE nailed it—and Rousey's character development—to perfection.
Bring on the era of Ronda.
