Ric Flair's Most Memorable Matches, Moments in WrestleMania History
There may be no better all-around wrestler in the history of the business than "Nature Boy" Ric Flair, and he made his case for that billing on multiple occasions at WrestleMania.
Although the bulk of Flair's career was spent in Jim Crockett Promotions (later WCW), he had a highly impressive run in WWE and locked horns with some of the biggest names in wrestling on The Grandest Stage of Them All.
Flair didn't have much success at WrestleMania in terms of wins and losses, with a 1-4 mark, but his uncanny storytelling ability allowed him to be part of some classic moments.
The following are some of the biggest matches and memories Flair helped create at The Showcase of the Immortals.
Flair Drops WWF Championship to Randy Savage at WrestleMania VIII
1 of 4After years of being the face of southern wrestling, Flair finally made the move to WWE in 1991.
Flair was the WCW world heavyweight champion at the time, and he brought the big gold belt with him, declaring himself to be the real world champion.
With Hulk Hogan and The Undertaker having a pair of controversial finishes in WWE Championship bouts, the title was vacated and put on the line in the 1992 Royal Rumble match. Flair won the Battle Royal, which allowed him to enter WrestleMania VIII as champion.
Early indications were that Flair would main-event the show against Hogan, but Vince McMahon went in another direction by pitting Hogan against Sid Justice and Flair against "Macho Man" Randy Savage.
As part of the rivalry, Flair claimed he had incriminating photos of Miss Elizabeth and that he was romantically involved with her.
That added even more heat to a rivalry that was already significant because of the fact the WWE Championship was on the line.
In the match itself, Flair tried to get a leg up on Savage by having Mr. Perfect help him on numerous occasions, which stacked the odds against Macho Man in a major way.
Memorably, Flair was cut early in the match and wore a crimson mask for much of it, which added to the drama.
Savage overcame Flair and Perfect to win the WWE Championship, and he celebrated with Miss Elizabeth afterward.
Since Flair left WWE to return to WCW less than a year later, that match was his final bout on The Grandest Stage of Them All for a decade.
Nature Boy Puts the Undertaker's Streak in Jeopardy at WrestleMania X8
2 of 4After 10 years away from the WrestleMania stage, Flair returned for WrestleMania X8 in 2002 to take on arguably the greatest WrestleMania performer of all time.
The Undertaker's streak hadn't been talked about much prior to WrestleMania X8, but it became a topic of conversation leading up to the event since a win would improve his record at The Showcase of the Immortals to 10-0.
Aside from a house show in 1992, The Nature Boy and The Deadman had never locked horns in a singles match prior to WrestleMania X8.
Since they were already both legendary performers by 2002, there was a huge spotlight cast on their WrestleMania match, which carried a No Disqualification stipulation.
Considering Flair has long been called The Dirtiest Player in the Game, the fact it was a No DQ match played into his hands and made it far more believable he could be the one to hand Taker his first WrestleMania loss.
Flair pulled out the stops, and his bag of tricks even included an appearance by former Four Horsemen stablemate Arn Anderson.
The Enforcer laid out The Phenom with a thunderous Spinebuster, but The Undertaker managed to kick out and eliminate Anderson from the picture by choking him out.
After Flair had laid all his cards on the table, Taker finally managed to put an end to the contest by hitting him with a Tombstone Piledriver to extend his streak to 10-0.
Even though Flair came out on the losing end, he returned to the WrestleMania stage in a splashy way and proved he was still at the top of his game despite being 53.
Shawn Michaels Ends Flair's Career at WrestleMania XXIV
3 of 4Flair's swansong came at WrestleMania XXIV in Orlando, Florida, one night after he took his rightful spot in the WWE Hall of Fame.
In the weeks and months leading up to WrestleMania, Flair faced a bevy of challengers with the stipulation being that he would be forced to retire in the event of a loss.
The Nature Boy staved them off time and time again, but he was faced with his biggest challenge on The Grandest Stage of Them All when he locked horns with Mr. WrestleMania.
Shawn Michaels is one of many all-time greats who called Flair their wrestling idol, which made it fitting that Flair's final WWE match would come against the Heartbreak Kid.
While it wasn't a sure thing that WrestleMania XXIV would be Flair's final match going in, the fact he was inducted into the Hall of Fame beforehand made it clear HBK was set to send him into retirement.
With that knowledge, everything about the match was emotional for Flair, Michaels and everyone watching in the stadium and around the world.
Before the contest, Flair had one of the classiest and most grandiose entrances of his career, as fireworks blasted behind him while he wore a beautiful robe that perfectly captured his elegance.
The match was nothing short of a masterpiece, as Flair managed to hang with Michaels for more than 20 minutes despite being just shy of 60.
Although Michaels carried him through certain parts of the contest, Flair turned in a remarkable performance that punctuated his career perfectly.
The end was among the greatest moments in WWE history, as Michaels mouthed "I'm sorry. I love you" before hitting Flair with Sweet Chin Music.
After HBK scored the winning pinfall, Flair broke down into tears and embraced Michaels before receiving an emotional sendoff from the fans.
Flair Helps Charlotte Win the Women's Championship at WrestleMania 32
4 of 4While Flair's WWE in-ring career ended at WrestleMania XXIV, it was not his final WrestleMania moment.
The Triple Threat match at WrestleMania 32 between Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch was originally scheduled to be for Charlotte's Divas Championship, but it was announced prior to the pay-per-view that the Divas Championship would be rebranded as the Women's Championship.
It was a seminal moment in women's wrestling, and Flair had a significant hand in it since he accompanied his daughter to the ring as her manager.
Charlotte, Sasha and Becky were largely left to their own devices, which resulted in arguably the match of the night and the greatest women's bout in WrestleMania history.
The three Superstars pulled out all the stops in an effort to be called the first women's champion in the midst of the WWE Women's Evolution, and they each turned in a championship-worthy performance.
In the latter stages of the bout, Charlotte locked Lynch in the Figure Eight, and while Banks attempted to break the hold, she was unable to because of Flair's interference.
The Nature Boy grabbed The Boss' leg and prevented her from entering the ring, with Becky soon tapping out. That resulted in Charlotte's victory.
Charlotte celebrated with the new Women's Championship in a moment that will be replayed by WWE for years to come, and Flair was nearby with the look of a proud father written all over his face.
Although it was his daughter's accomplishment, Flair got to share the spotlight with her and be part of what will long be viewed as a turning point in women's wrestling.
