Right to Censor and the 7 Most Underrated Stables in WWE History

The Doctor Chris MuellerFeb 16, 2018

Stables have existed in professional wrestling for a long time, and many of the top stars in the business have been associated with at least one during their careers.

Countless groups have made big impacts over the years. D-Generation X, the New World Order, Nation of Domination, Four Horsemen, Evolution and The Hart Foundation are stables people always talk about with fondness.

Then there are the groups fans tend to overlook until someone else brings them up. Despite being forgettable, many of them gave us a lot of entertainment while helping launch Superstars' careers.

A lot of fans might not know about The Varsity Club, but we have all heard of Scott Steiner, Mike Rotunda and Kevin Sullivan.Ā

This article will take a walk down memory lane and list the most underrated stables in WWE history.

La Familia

1 of 6

Edge is most commonly associated with his tag team alongside Christian, but The Rated-R Superstar was also the leader of a stable at one point.

La Familia was formed during Edge's storyline relationship with Vickie Guerrero. The group included Chavo Guerrero, Curt Hawkins, Zack Ryder and Bam Neely.

While the main focus of La Familia was to keep Vickie in power and Edge as world champion, it also helped strengthen Hawkins and Ryder's careers.

Before Edge became their mentor, Hawkins and Ryder were a tag team called The Major Brothers. They were portrayed as brothers because they looked alike, but the gimmick was quickly abandoned in favor of making them Edgeheads.

Not only did they win the tag titles while part of the group, but Chavo also became theĀ ECW champion during this time. It was the only time he held a singles title in WWE that wasn't the Cruiserweight Championship.

La Familia might not have had the kind of impact DX or The Four Horsemen had, but it had some great moments during its run from 2007 until 2009.

The Disciples of Apocalypse and Los Boricuas

2 of 6

When WCW began dominating the ratings war with WWE thanks to the NWO, WWE supremo Vince McMahon's reaction was to create several smaller stables instead of one large group.

The Nation of Domination featured many notable names, but the group needed someone to feud with. This is why WWE created Los Boricuas and The Disciples of Apocalypse.

Savio Vega led Los Boricuas and was supported by Miguel Perez Jr., Jesus Castillo and Jose Estrada Jr., while Crush was in charge of DOA.Ā Chainz, 8-Ball and Skull were his supporting cast, and Paul ElleringĀ was their mouthpiece.Ā

The Nation had the biggest impact out of the three stables, but it might not have been as successful ifĀ it weren't for its early success in feuds with LosĀ Boricuas and DOA.

The three groups had many matches in 1997 and 1998, but certain members' departures led to the overall rivalry fizzling out before it had a chance to take off.

The JOB Squad

WWE doesn't like to use backstage wrestling terminology too often, but a big exception was made when the company introduced The JOB Squad.

The group was made up of Superstars who were often known for putting other Superstars over, commonly known as Jobbers.

Al Snow, 2 Cold Scorpio, Gilberg, Bob Holly and The Blue Meanie all served as members, but the original three were Snow, Scorpio and Holly.

The group was able to get over because of its members' statuses as underdogs. And though The JOB Squad lasted less than a year, it saw some success early on.

Gilberg held the light-heavyweight title while with The JOB Squad, which wound up being the only belt he held while working for WWE.

The Cabinet

4 of 6

The transition from Justin "Hawk" Bradshaw, the cowboy, to John "Bradshaw"Ā Layfield, the wannabe politician, was one of the biggest character changes a Superstar has gone through. And it ended up leading to the best run of his career.

JBL won the WWE Championship at the 2004 Great American Bash and held on to it for nine months until WrestleMania 21, when he was dethroned by John Cena.

During his reign, JBL employed the services of The Basham Brothers, Jillian Hall, Amy Weber and Orlando Jordan to form a new stable.

The Cabinet helped keep the title around JBL's waist, but the other members of the group also found success, with Jordan defeatingĀ Cena for the U.S. Championship and the Bashams winning the tag titles from Rob Van Dam and Rey Mysterio.

JBL was able to defeat some of the greatest Superstars of all time during his reign as champion thanks to The Cabinet. His list of vanquished rivals includes names such as The Undertaker, Eddie Guerrero and Kurt Angle.

The League of Nations

5 of 6

The League of Nations was a low point for most of the Superstars involved, but the four components' combined level of talent makes the faction worthy of inclusion.

Alberto Del Rio, Sheamus, Rusev and Wade Barrett were four foreign Superstars who had common interests and goals, so putting them in a group together seemed like a great way to keep them busy.

Del Rio is a technical marvel in the ring, Sheamus is a gifted brawler, Barrett is an amazing talker and Rusev is one of the most versatile big men in the business.

The stable was born at Tables, Ladders & Chairs 2015 during Sheamus' world title defense against Roman Reigns.

Del Rio was still the U.S. champion when everyone got together. With two of the top singles titles in one group, it seemed like The League of Nations was going to be a force to be reckoned with.

Unfortunately, the group wound up losing steam quickly, and the Superstars soon went their separate ways.

Right to Censor

6 of 6

Right to Censor was one of the odder stables to come along during the Attitude Era, but it gave a lot of Superstars a second chance once their original gimmicks started to get stale.

Steven Richards got the group going, and he was eventually joined by The Godfather (rebranded as The Goodfather), Bull Buchanan, Val Venis and Ivory.

Each of these Superstars had played a controversial character in some way, especially The Godfather and Venis.

During the height of their popularity, Right to Censor won several pay-per-view matches in a row. Ivory joined the group as women's champion, and The Goodfather and Buchanan won the tag titles.

It may have started as a comedy act, but each member helped make Right to Censor memorable in a different way.

WWE has featured dozens of stables over the past few decades. Which one do you feel is the most underrated?
