Isaiah Thomas Says Cavaliers Will Turn Season Around: 'I Will Never Fold'
Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Isaiah Thomas posted a message on social media Friday expressing confidence in the Cavs' ability to get back on track after losing 10 of their last 13 games.
Thomas relayed the upbeat comments on Twitter ahead of the team's clash with the Indiana Pacers at Quicken Loans Arena on Friday night:
Along with the Cavaliers' on-court struggles, they've dealt with off-court drama this week.
Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.com reported Cleveland held a "fiery" team meeting Monday where players questioned power forward Kevin Love about the illness that forced him to exit Saturday's loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder before missing Sunday's practice.
Thomas "led the charge" against Love during the meeting, per Frank Isola of the New York Daily News.
Cavs head coach Tyronn Lue said Tuesday the team must now channel that energy in a positive way.
"I don't know if it was needed, but now we got to do something about it," Lue told reporters. "Do a lot of talking, but we got to play better. We got to execute better offensively. We got to execute better defensively. We got to be better collectively."
Thomas, a key piece of the offseason blockbuster trade that sent Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics, returned to the lineup earlier this month after hip surgery. He's struggled to make an impact so far, averaging 15.9 points on 39.1 percent shooting through eight appearances.
He'll likely need to make a much bigger impact moving forward in order for the Cavaliers to transform back into a championship contender. He's capable of that after averaging 28.9 points for the Celtics last season, but finding his niche alongside LeBron James could take the rest of the regular season.
