Jordan Bell Discusses Scuffles with Salah Mejri, Devin Harris vs. Mavericks
Golden State Warriors forward Jordan Bell said he believes his altercation with Salah Mejri in Wednesday's game against the Dallas Mavericks was related to his throwing a ball off the backboard for a dunk in their last matchup on Oct. 23.
"I think the first one I got into with. I don't know his name. The big dude, No. 50," Bell told Chris Haynes of ESPN. "I think that had something to do with it because I didn't even touch him at all. I hit the ball. He was being extra, trying to be a fake tough guy and s--t."
Bell and Mavericks guard Devin Harris got into it with each other later in the game, which the rookie attributed to "just being physical." He did not feel it was retaliatory.
Playing on the first night of a back-to-back, the Warriors were surprisingly challenged by the lowly Mavericks in a 125-122 win. Bell finished with two points, four rebounds and two steals, numbers that undersell his all-around performance. His plus-10 plus/minus was the best of any player on the team.
The Mavericks had some festering resentment toward Bell because of his garbage-time dunk in Oct., which some felt was unsporting. Dallas coach Rick Carlisle would not shake hands with Warriors coach Steve Kerr following the game.
"It caught me off guard," Kerr told reporters at the time. "He's just out there having fun. The main thing he needs to understand is it's going to offend some people. So be ready for them to come back at you. You have to be careful with what you're doing. He's just having fun."
