WWE NXT Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from October 11

Erik BeastonOct 11, 2017

A rematch from TakeOver: Brooklyn in which Johnny Gargano battled Andrade "Cien" Almas headlined the October 11 episode of NXT.

The celebrated in-ring performers battled Wednesday night, delivering a match that was as good, if not better, than their first bout.

They were not the only Superstars to make their presences felt, though.

Danny Burch promised to provide Lars Sullivan with the fight of his life, Lio Rush sought revenge on Velveteen Dream for a sneak attack last week and the latest entrant into the Fatal 4-Way match for the NXT Women's Championship was determined in a big Triple Threat match.

Who won the night's action and how did storylines propel forward?

Find out with this recap of the broadcast.

Liv Morgan vs. Nikki Cross vs. Peyton Royce

1 of 5

The journey to TakeOver: WarGames in Houston and the coronation of a new NXT women's champion continued Wednesday night as Liv Morgan, Nikki Cross and Peyton Royce battled in a Triple Threat match. The winner would cash her ticket to the live special.

Morgan and Cross dispatched of Royce early before the unstable Cross trapped Morgan in a sleeper.

Cross tried a cross-body block to both of her opponents but ate a big slam that temporarily eliminated her from the match.

Royce trapped Morgan in a tarantula, working the limbs and joints of her opponent.

Cross fought back into the match, unloading on her opponents with a missile dropkick and a series of forearms. A big neckbreaker by Cross put Morgan down, and the Scot was clearly rolling.

A recovered Royce tried for a superplex to Morgan, but Cross appeared, grabbed hold of the Aussie and slammed her to the mat, bringing Morgan with her.

Late, Taynara Conti appeared and momentarily distracted Cross. She pulled Cross off a near-fall, then led her on a chase that ended with a heel kick by Royce and fisherman suplex that earned the heel the spot at TakeOver.

Result

Peyton Royce defeated Nikki Cross and Liv Morgan.

Grade

B

Analysis

The match itself was not particularly spectacular by any means, essentially following the same tired Triple Threat formula most of those matches do at this point.

Cross was the real star of the match, outshining both of her opponents and being at center of the Conti controversy, which will almost certainly earn her reconsideration for the fourth spot in the upcoming title bout.

Royce, a longtime member of the roster whose work has continuously improved, is a deserving addition to the 4-Way and will add some heel heat to a match that figures to be babyface-heavy.

Lio Rush vs. Velveteen Dream

2 of 5

Lio Rush sought revenge for last week's sneak attack by Velveteen Dream that cost him an opportunity to square off with Aleister Black.

The speedy newcomer embarrassed and outclassed his opponent early, using his elusiveness to frustrate Dream.

The eccentric heel, though, utilized a strength advantage to momentarily neutralize Rush.

A counter into a big tornado DDT, though, reignited Rush's fire. That is, until a rolling Death Valley Driver and the Purple Rainmaker elbow drop earned Dream the fast-paced victory.

Result

Velveteen Dream defeated Lio Rush.

Grade

A

Analysis

As an initial peek at what fans can expect out of Rush going forward, this was fantastic. Faster and more elusive than any other wrestler on the roster, he looked like a star of NXT's future.

Having withstood fiery onslaught early, Dream proved himself capable of overcoming a deficit and winning anyway. He will need to do that when he meets Aleister Black, whom he mocked at the end of the bout.

Danny Burch vs. Lars Sullivan

3 of 5

Lars Sullivan defeated Oney Lorcan in a brutal, hard-hitting match a few weeks back, and Wednesday night, he battled Danny Burch in a follow-up.

The hard-nosed Brit had come to Lorcan's aid following that defeat and, this week, experienced the unrelenting force of the unstoppable Sullivan.

Sullivan punished Burch, overwhelming him with his incredible strength and fury.

Burch attempted to fight back, leveling Sullivan with a series of uppercuts. A nearly decapitating clothesline and the side spinebuster ended Burch's night on a sour, painful note.

Result

Lars Sullivan defeated Danny Burch.

Grade

B

Analysis

As another explosive example of Sullivan's ferocious attack, this succeeded. It would have been nice to see Burch get a little more offense in, unlike Lorcan, who was allowed to stand toe-to-toe with the beast.

There are big things in Sullivan's future, and impressive squashes like this are proof.

The Street Profits in Action

4 of 5

Damien Smith and Espada were the next tag team in line for a showdown with The Street Profits.

They fared as well as everyone else.

After an energetic performance that saw the Profits bowl over the competition, Montez Ford scaled the ropes and came off with a frog splash for the victory.

Result

The Street Profits defeated Damien Smith and Espada.

Grade

C

Analysis

This was the same squash we have seen from The Street Profits every week since their debut, but they bring such an energy and excitement to the show that fans eat it up.

It will be interesting to see which team is ultimately booked opposite them in a legitimate rivalry, but for now, they should continue to get over just fine doing what they are doing.

Johnny Gargano vs. Andrade "Cien" Almas

5 of 5

Johnny Gargano sought a much-needed victory against the man who narrowly defeated him back at TakeOver: Orlando, Andrade "Cien" Almas.

The action in Wednesday's rematch was nonstop and featured several near-falls that captivated the audience.

Almas controlled the middle portion of the bout, but Gargano's competitive spirit allowed him to fight back.

Late in the bout, Gargano trapped Almas in Gargano Escape, but Zelina Vega unzipped her jacket to reveal a DIY T-shirt. Though it did not have nearly the effect it had on Gargano in their previous match, it did allow Almas to make it to the ropes, creating a mandatory rope break.

Vega again tried to distract Gargano, to minimal effect.

Gargano eventually found himself seated in the corner. Almas exploded with the double knees, then the same move to the back of the head. The hammerlock DDT finished him off and earned Almas another quality victory.

Result

Andrade Almas defeated Johnny Gargano.

Grade

A+

Analysis

A phenomenal capper to this week's show.

Gargano and Almas have the type of in-ring chemistry that leads to show-stealing performances and the desire to watch them wrestle regularly. Like Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens, but without the complicated backstory.

Almas' winning here sets him up for NXT Championship contention, the addition of Vega clearly helping him gain momentum for the first time in his stint with the brand. For Gargano, it continues his story of shortcomings in the wake of the DIY breakup.
