J.D. Martinez 4th Player with Grand Slam in Both Leagues in Single Season
Arizona Diamondbacks right fielder J.D. Martinez went just 1-for-4 during Thursday's 4-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.
However, that one hit was a home run with the bases loaded, making him just the fourth player in MLB history to hit a grand slam in both leagues in the same season, per Elias Sports Bureau (viaย ESPN Stats & Info). He hit one earlier this season as a member of the Detroit Tigers and joins the likes of Yoenis Cespedes (2015), Will Clark (2000) and Greg Vaughn (1996) to do the same.
When the 29-year-old slugger's output from his short time with the Diamondbacks is added to his production Detroit, he has smacked 20 homers with 50 RBI over 63 games. If he hadn't missed a good chunk of the season early on due to injury, Martinez might have been onย pace to hit more than 40 homers this season.

Report: MLB Vet Unretires After 1 Day
The Diamondbacks made a huge move in acquiring Martinez prior to the non-waiver trade deadline, which arrives Monday. In his six games played since joining Arizona, Martinez has gone just 5-for-20 ย but has produced four home runs and 11 RBI.
Martinez fits nicely into the middle of the Diamondbacks' batting order, hitting behind All-Stars Paul Goldschmidt and Jake Lamb. That's exactly where he will be when the Diamondbacks take the field Friday as they play the second of a four-game set against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Arizona enters Friday's action 12 games back of the Los Angeles Dodgers for the best record in the NL West, but the club owns the third-best record in the National League and sits in good position to earn its first playoff berth since 2011.
