Lucky Whitehead Says He Was 'Called a Liar' over Shoplifting Incident
Lucky Whitehead was released from the Dallas Cowboys due to a case of mistaken identity, and he certainly doesn't appreciate the way he was treated.
"Let's not sugarcoat anything," Whitehead said Tuesday, per Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News. "I was pretty much being called a liar."
Per ESPN, the receiver had a warrant out for his arrest after failing to appear in court on a shoplifting charge in Virginia. The Cowboys released him Monday shortly after hearing about the incident.

As Ian Rapoport of NFL Network noted, all charges were later dropped when the police department discovered it had the wrong person.
"As far as the whole situation went down, I was blindsided," Whitehead said, per Machota. "I didn't know about a warrant that came about in the first place. Clearly because I wasn't the person arrested. The head person [in the Cowboys organization] I told, no one backed me up. No one had my back in the whole situation. I knew about it at what? 12:45. By 2:30 I'm released."
Dallas head coach Jason Garrett discussed the team's choice to stand its initial decision Tuesday:
He repeatedly called it a move that was "in the best interest of the Dallas Cowboys."
The 25-year-old has been mostly used on special teams during his time in the NFL and has only nine career catches in two seasons.
