NBA Summer League 2017: Saturday Scores and Highlights from Las Vegas Results

Tyler ConwayJul 15, 2017

The NBA Summer League will be down to its final four after Saturday's play, as quarterfinal action took place in Las Vegas.

The No. 16 seed Portland Trail Blazers, a surprise quarterfinalist, started action against the eighth-seeded San Antonio Spurs. The Memphis Grizzlies and Miami Heat followed, but the real big names on the marquee came later in the evening.

Dennis Smith Jr., Jayson Tatum and Lonzo Ball were all scheduled to be in action in late games. Smith's Dallas Mavericks took on Tatum's Boston Celtics, while Ball's Los Angeles Lakers looked to continue their way through the event with a win against the Brooklyn Nets.

Saturday Results

Portland Trail Blazers 94, San Antonio Spurs 87

Memphis Grizzlies 98, Miami Heat 95

Dallas Mavericks 91, Boston Celtics 74

Los Angeles Lakers 115, Brooklyn Nets 106

Portland Trail Blazers 94, San Antonio Spurs 87

Jake Layman scored 23 points as one of four Blazers starters in double figures as Portland earned a 94-87 win over the Spurs to continue its surprising run to the semis.

Layman knocked down three of Portland's seven threes and added seven rebounds. Rookie center Caleb Swanigan added 16 points and nine rebounds to continue his stellar showing in Vegas, while guards RJ Hunter (16 points) and Jorge Gutierrez (10 points) were also in double figures.

Zach Collins, Portland's other first-round pick, did not play.

The Spurs were led by a 20-point effort by Derrick White off the bench. Jeff Ledbetter and Bryn Forbes each finished with 13 points, while Olivier Hanlan had 11 points and four assists.

San Antonio committed 20 turnovers and allowed 21 offensive rebounds, which allowed Portland to put up 93 shot attempts.

Memphis Grizzlies 98, Miami Heat 95

The Grizzlies kept their undefeated stint in Vegas alive, but it was not without a fight. The Miami Heat forced two overtime periods before falling in a 98-95 thriller to Memphis, which has won its first five contests.

Wayne Selden scored a game-high 24 points with five rebounds and four assists. Dillon Brooks (14 points), Vincent Hunter (13 points) and Wade Baldwin IV (12 points) were also in double figures.

Baldwin also added 10 rebounds as part of a double-double effort.

The Heat lost despite having a massive advantage from long range, knocking down 16 threes compared to Memphis' three. Gian Clavell (20 points) was responsible for five threes, while Matt Williams (18 points) knocked down a game-high six.

Zach Auguste (16 points), Justin Robinson (13 points) and AJ Hammons (10 points) were in double figures.

The Heat played without first-round rookie Bam Adebayo.

Dallas Mavericks 91, Boston Celtics 74

The Dallas Mavericks clinched a semifinal berth Saturday night by thumping the Boston Celtics 91-74 as five different Dallas scorers finished in double-figures.

Yogi Ferrell led that group with 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting, while Nicolas Brussino added 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including 4-of-6 from three.

No. 9 overall pick Dennis Smith Jr. was uncharacteristically quiet in the win. Over the course of 15 minutes, the N.C. State product managed three points (1-of-6 shooting) and two assists.

The Celtics, who sat Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, were paced by 12 points from Rosco Allen.

However, it was largely a night to forget for the Celtics as they shot 41.8 percent from the field as a team.

Los Angeles Lakers 115, Brooklyn Nets 106

Vander Blue and Kyle Kuzma shined as the Los Angeles Lakers set up a semifinal date against the Mavericks with a 115-106 win over the Brooklyn Nets in Saturday's final game at Thomas & Mack Center.

The reigning G League MVP, Blue piled up a game-high 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting, including 3-of-5 from three.

Kuzma, who has been arguably L.A.'s best played in Summer League outside of Lonzo Ball, added 26 points on 10-of-19 shooting as he flashed a steady scoring stroke from three and from mid-range.

Speaking of Ball, the No. 2 overall pick took a slight step back after posting consecutive triple-doubles against the Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers.

In 34 minutes, the UCLA product registered 14 points (4-of-12 shooting), nine rebounds and seven assists.

The Nets were buoyed by 23 points from Caris LeVert and 22 from Spencer Dinwiddie, but they couldn't string together enough stops to mount a fourth-quarter comeback against the Purple and Gold.
