Derrick Rose Rumors: Bucks Set Up 2nd Meeting with Veteran PG

Alec NathanJul 13, 2017

Derrick Rose and the Milwaukee Bucks are working to set up a second meeting this weekend in Los Angeles, according to ESPN.com's Chris Haynes

Rose, 28, averaged 18.0 points, 4.4 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game while shooting 47.1 percent from the field and 21.7 percent from three last season.

On paper, the Bucks don't seem to have a pressing need at point guard.

Reigning Rookie of the Year Malcolm Brogdon spent 54 percent of his minutes at the 1 last season, and defensive specialist Matthew Dellavedova is under contract for three more years at a rate of $9.6 million annually.

More importantly, though, the Bucks have one of the league's most dynamic on-ball playmakers in point forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, who averaged career highs of 22.9 points, 8.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists last season.

If the Bucks continue to pursue a union with Rose, the free-agent floor general will likely have to make financial concessions.

According to Haynes, the Bucks can only offer Rose the taxpayer mid-level exception of $5.2 million since they're currently over the tax apron.

However, Haynes added there is "mutual interest and motivation" between the Bucks and big man John Henson to find him a new home through a trade.

If the Bucks can do that and dip below the apron, they would have the wiggle room to offer Rose a more appealing deal.
