De'Aaron Fox Agrees to Rookie Contract with Sacramento Kings

Rob GoldbergJul 8, 2017

The Sacramento Kings announced they have agreed on a deal with first-round pick De'Aaron Fox.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Fox was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft, the third of five point guards selected with the first nine picks.

The 6'3" guard provides the type of quickness and athleticism possessed by few at the position, which helped him average 16.7 points and 4.6 assists per game in his freshman year at Kentucky. The Kings drafted him with the expectation he will make an immediate impact on both ends of the court.

Although the Kings have not had much success over the past decade, Fox is confident he can turn things around.

"I know it'll take a few years," Fox said, per James Herbert of CBS Sports. "Nothing changes overnight. But for me it will be different. They asked me about that. But we're just trying to steer this franchise in the right direction."

This is a realistic approach, but it will still take a lot of work from the young player to improve the organization.

Sacramento has gone 11 seasons without a playoff berth, but Fox could be the next step in the youth movement that leads to more success going forward. With Buddy Hield, Willie Cauley-Stein and others, the squad finally appears headed in the right direction.
