Orlando Summer League 2017: Saturday Scores, Stats, Highlights and Reaction
The 2017 Orlando Summer League kicked off Saturday with a quartet of games from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. It's the first of three such events during the NBA offseason, with tournaments in Utah and Las Vegas starting next week.
While the Summer League is often viewed as the first opportunity to see top prospects, like the Orlando Magic's Jonathan Isaac, in an NBA environment, it's also a chance for fringe players to make an impact. A strong showing can give them renewed opportunity heading toward the 2017-18 season.
So let's take a look at the complete slate for the first day of play in Orlando, which will be updated through the conclusion of the day's games. That's followed by a recap of the action.

Saturday Schedule
Charlotte Hornets 74, Miami Heat 67
Indiana Pacers 85, Orlando Magic 74
Dallas Mavericks 80, New York Knicks 75
Oklahoma City Thunder 92, Detroit Pistons 91
Charlotte Hornets 74, Miami Heat 67
Treveon Graham put together a terrific all-around performance with 16 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and three steals to lead the Hornets to a close victory over the Heat.
Graham is a perfect example of a player trying to show he's ready for a bigger place in the rotation. He went undrafted out of VCU in 2015 and finally started seeing some limited action off the bench with Charlotte last season. He played like he's ready for a more prominent high-energy role Saturday.
Justin Thomas of ESPN Charlotte commented on the guard's growth:
Briante Weber added a team-high 17 points for the Hornets. Johnny O'Bryant III had 12 points, four rebounds and three blocks but also racked up seven personal fouls.
Meanwhile, Miami's Bam Adebayo displayed the reliable down-low game that made him the 14th overall pick in this year's draft. The University of Kentucky product put up 14 points and 10 rebounds, including six offensive boards, and two assists for the Heat.
NBA TV highlighted one of his six field goals in the game:
Okaro White led all scorers with 20 points, but he also had seven turnovers and six fouls. Gian Clavell chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds off the bench in Miami's losing effort.
Both teams return to action Sunday. The Heat will take on tournament hosts Orlando at 3 p.m. ET, and the Hornets are set to face the Pacers at 5 p.m. ET.
Indiana Pacers 85, Orlando Magic 74
Travis Leslie led the way with 20 points as the Pacers built an 18-point halftime lead and cruised to the finish line for a tournament-opening win over the Magic.
Leslie averaged 13.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists across 48 games with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the NBA G League last season. Now he's trying to work his way back into the NBA to build on his 10 games of experience, which came in 2011-12 with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Jarnell Stokes added 10 points, nine rebounds and four blocks. Naz Mitrou-Long, an undrafted prospect out of Iowa State this year, pouring in 16 points on the strength of four three-pointers.
Jay Siskin of Def Pen Hoops believes Stokes can carve out a niche for himself:
Isaac struggled from the field for the Magic in his team debut. The sixth overall pick made just two of his 10 shots en route to seven points, though he did chip in eight boards and two blocks.
NBA TV spotlighted one of his few highlight-reel moments:
Kalin Lucas, Marcus Georges-Hunt and Derrick Walton Jr. reached double figures for Orlando with 10 points each.
Dallas Mavericks 80, New York Knicks 75
Dwight Buycks has played for teams around the globe since going undrafted in 2011, but he's making a push for another NBA opportunity after putting up 16 points, seven steals, six assists and four rebounds in the Mavs' triumph over the Knicks.
Cat Barber (14 points) and Brandon Paul (12) also had strong offensive showings for Dallas. Jameel Warney added 10 points, eight boards and two blocks on the interior.
It was Buycks' day to shine, though. He talked about the outing with NBA TV afterward:
On the flip side, Chasson Randle led the Knicks with 14 points, but also tallied seven turnovers and seven fouls. It was a disappointing overall performance given Saturday's game was his chance to steal the spotlight while first-round pick Frank Ntilikina recovers from a knee injury.
The silver lining for New York was undrafted signing Luke Kornet out of Vanderbilt emerging as a player to watch. The 7'1'' center looked like a possible stretch asset with four three-pointers.
NBA TV highlighted his success:
The Knicks have a quick turnaround to face the Pistons in Sunday's first game at 1 p.m ET. The Mavericks have tomorrow off before returning to the floor Monday against the Magic.
Oklahoma City Thunder 92, Detroit Pistons 91
The Thunder and Pistons saved the day's best game for last. OKC overcame a seven-point deficit to earn the narrowest of victories led by Vince Hunter's 21 points on seven-of-10 shooting.
Dakari Johnson added 18 points and 10 rebounds for Oklahoma City, while Daniel Hamilton had 17 points and six boards. Semaj Christon tallied eight points and eight assists.
The Thunder passed along comments from Hunter about the late defensive stops:
Eric Moreland put up a double-double for the Pistons with 10 points and 11 rebounds. He also chipped in four blocks at the defensive end. First-round pick Luke Kennard scored 16 points thanks to his four makes from beyond the arc on six attempts.
Henry Ellenson matched Hunter with a game-high 21 points in a losing effort. NBA TV relayed a look at his terrific first quarter:
Looking ahead, the Pistons are right back at it tomorrow against the Knicks. The Thunder get to enjoy a day off before taking on the Knicks on Monday afternoon.
