Bobby Webster Promoted to Raptors GM, Becomes Youngest in NBA
The Toronto Raptors announced Wednesday they have promoted Bobby Webster to general manager.
Webster had previously worked as the team's assistant general manager and vice president of basketball management and strategy. At 32 years old, he's the youngest general manager in the NBA, per the Associated Press (via ESPN.com).
With Webster's promotion, Dan Tolzman will take over as assistant GM and Keith Boyarsky will be the team's vice president of basketball strategy and research.

"We are excited to promote Bobby, Dan and Keith for their hard work and important contributions to our program," team president Masai Ujiri said in the press release. "They have been invaluable across many aspects of the franchise, making decisions on our salary management, key input on scouting, analytics, strategy, player personnel and team building that has helped us develop a winning culture throughout our organization."
Webster replaces Jeff Weltman, who left to become the Orlando Magic team president.
Webster won't have much time to settle into his new job before he has to address the Raptors' biggest offseason question mark: free-agent point guard Kyle Lowry. Re-signing Lowry will come at a huge price and limit Toronto's options for bringing in more players to upgrade the roster.
Losing Lowry, though, would be a huge blow to the Raptors since it'd be nearly impossible for them to find an adequate replacement.
Ujiri's future in Toronto also became a story Wednesday after The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski reported the New York Knicks are targeting him to replace Phil Jackson as team president. The Knicks confirmed they agreed to relieve Jackson of his duties as president.
"The stability between [Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment chairman Larry Tanenbaum] and Masai within this organization is clear, and I'm happy to be a part of it," Webster said, per Rogers Sportsnet's Michael Grange.
Having Ujiri would be a big help to Webster as he looks to navigate what will be an important summer for the Raptors.
