Paul George Speaks on 'Gullible' Fans After Moving Truck Seen in Front of Home
Indiana Pacers star Paul George tweeted Saturday that fans were "gullible" for believing he was relocating from Indianapolis after a moving truck was spotted near his home:
People boating nearby spotted the truck Thursday. George's name has been floating in trade rumors since Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reported the four-time All-Star informed the Pacers he plans to leave the team in free agency next summer.
After George went untraded during Thursday's draft, Pacers president of basketball operations Kevin Pritchard acknowledged a bit of sourness with the situation.
"It couldn't have come at a worse time," Pritchard told reporters. "If we would have known this a few months ago, I think we could have been more prepared. Becoming public was a big issue.
"We want our players to want to be here; that's important. It really is. When Paul said he didn't, that's a gut punch."
Now, with the draft over, the Pacers will probably wait out the free-agency dominoes to see where things land. If a team such as the Boston Celtics pulls off a coup, like signing Gordon Hayward, it might create a more palatable trade scenario.
"It's not ideal, but we didn't put ourselves in it. [George] did," Pritchard said. "I know he likes Indiana. I don't think it's that. I think we have to look at our scenarios, and it doesn't mean we have to look today. We don't want to have to be rushed. We want to be methodical in our decision-making. We're going to look at everything.
"For Paul, it's a situation as he looks at this—it's not ideal, but it's not ideal for us. We have to do what's best for our organization."
It might rub Pacers fans the wrong way for George's first public comments on the matter to be standoffish, but this was never going to be an easy ending. Stars who leave mid-size markets are always subject to backlash, and George is going to be hated for the first time in his career.
Plus, having people scope out your house for a moving truck can't be fun. It's a bad situation that will only get better when all parties have moved on.
