Joel Embiid Tells Kristaps Porzingis 76ers Don't Care About Exit Interviews
Joel Embiid, master of shooting his shot, is at it again.
Late Wednesday night, the Philadelphia 76ers center sent a thinly-veiled message to New York Knicks forward Kristaps Porzingis, who was chastised by team president Phil Jackson for skipping out on his exit interview in April.
"I don't think I've ever had a player over 25 years of coaching, maybe 30, not coming to an exit meeting, so it's not happened to me," Jackson said during an interview on MSG Network, per ESPN.com's Ian Begley. "I know it happens to other people and other players. His brother and his agent have downplayed it, but still, it's a chance for a person to express themselves and I had a real good relationship with Kristaps over the last two years. So it was kind of surprising."
Jackson was also transparent about the Knicks fielding offers for Porzingis with the NBA draft less than 24 hours away.
"We're getting calls," Jackson said. "As much as we value Kristaps and what he's done for us, when a guy doesn't show up for an exit meeting, everybody starts speculating on the duration or movability from a club."
As far as potential destinations are concerned, Begley reported the Knicks have talked to every team slated to draft in the top five on Thursday about a possible deal. The most noteworthy conversations appeared to take place with the Phoenix Suns, who own the fourth pick.
The Knicks have also reportedly had preliminary discussions with the Oklahoma City Thunder about a deal, but Begley cited a source who said they "don't have enough" to get it done.
