Josh Jackson Says It Was 'Too Late' to Work Out for Celtics Ahead of NBA Draft
Former Kansas star Josh Jackson might still be a good fit with the Boston Celtics for the No. 3 pick of the NBA draft, but he never got a chance to work out for the team before Thursday's draft.
"I felt like they made it pretty clear who they were going to draft with the No. 1 pick, so I didn't really feel like it was worth either of our times for me to work out with them," Jackson said Wednesday, per ESPN. "But then when they, you know, did the flip and went to No. 3, by then it was too late."
Boston had the No. 1 overall pick and spent two days with Markelle Fultz, seemingly ready to take him at the top of the draft. However, the team later traded its selection to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for the No. 3 and a future first-rounder.
ESPN's Chad Ford reported Jackson refused a workout unless the Celtics commit to taking him at No. 3.
One day later, Ford noted the team is now leaning toward taking Jayson Tatum, although Jackson is still an option after providing his medical info.
While Jackson has a lot of upside as a versatile wing who can score, pass and play elite defense, Boston appears ready to go with a prospect it has more thoroughly scouted in Tatum. The former Duke player worked out for the team on Monday.
