PGA Tour to Add Blood Testing Next Season as Part of PED Screening
The PGA Tour is set to enhance its PED testing next season by adding blood testing to the anti-doping procedure.
According to the Associated Press (h/t USA Today), the change will be implemented in October to coincide with the start of a new campaign.
The PGA Tour previously only used urine testing, which left it unable to detect the use of human growth hormone.
Along with blood testing, the PGA Tour will revise its list of banned substances to that of the World Anti-Doping Agency, per the AP (h/t USA Today).
While suspensions have been few and far between on the PGA Tour, Scott Stallings was banned for three months in 2015 for violating the policy against PEDs.
In another change from the previous system, the PGA Tour will begin publicly announcing golfers who violate tests for drugs of abuse in addition to PEDs.
