Pete Carroll Says Seahawks Want to Work out New Contract with Kam Chancellor
With Seattle Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor entering the final year of his current deal, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll told reporters Tuesday the team is hopeful it can work out an extension.
Carroll said that "[Chancellor's] frame of mind and [the Seahawks'] frame of mind is in a really good place," per the News Tribune's Gregg Bell:

Chancellor is set to earn $6.8 million in 2017, the second-most for a safety behind Earl Thomas ($8.5 million), per Spotrac.
The Seattle Times' Bob Condotta wrote in January that Chancellor's 2016 performance likely increased the Seahawks' desire to offer him an extension. The four-time Pro Bowler finished with 81 combined tackles and two interceptions.
He ranked 34th on NFL Network's list of the top 100 players in 2017:
According to Spotrac, Seattle has a little over $24 million in salary cap space for 2018. That amount is more than enough to accommodate an extension for Chancellor.
However, the Seahawks will also have to weigh the futures of Jimmy Graham, Eddie Lacy and Thomas Rawls, all of whom are free agents in a year. General manager John Schneider will also want to leave himself with enough flexibility to sign some free agents as well.
After Schneider said in April that he'd at least entertain a Richard Sherman trade for the right price, nothing is off the table in terms of Chancellor's future.
