Tyronn Lue Says Cavaliers Brought Physicality, Purpose to Game 4 Win
Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue acknowledged that his team got back to its roots Friday night in a 137-116 Game 4 win over the Golden State Warriors.
"We really brought a physicality to the game, we had a purpose," Lue said, according to the Akron Beacon Journal's Marla Ridenour.
"We felt if we played our basketball and make shots and play our brand of basketball that we can win," Lue added, according to the team's official Twitter account. "Tonight was who we are. We made shots, and defensively I thought we were pretty good."
In addition to LeBron James (31 points, 11 assists, 10 rebounds), Kyrie Irving (40 points, seven rebounds, four assists) and Kevin Love (23 points), Lue credited his role players for stepping up and sticking with it after they sputtered in the series' first three games.
"I stick with my guys," Lue said, per Fox Sports Ohio. "Tristan [Thompson] was great, J.R. [Smith] has been great these last two games. These guys got us here, and I'm sticking with my guys."
Thompson, who was held scoreless in Game 3, showed up with far and away his best effort of the series to date. In 36 minutes, the big man racked up five points, a series-high 10 rebounds and five assists.
Smith, meanwhile, shot 5-of-9 from three to finish with 15 points. He was also a plus-14 in the plus/minus column, which represented a 22-point improvement from Game 3 when he was a minus-eight.
With a sweep now officially out of the picture, Lue has his mind on a return trip to Quicken Loans Arena for Game 6.
"Well, we gotta come back home, so we might as well come back with a win," he said, according to ESPN.com's Baxter Holmes. "That's our mentality."
