WWE Rumors: Buzz on Road to WWE Money in the Bank 2017 for Week of June 5

Kevin WongJun 8, 2017

Historically, it's one of the more minor pay-per-views, but over the past several years, Money in the Bank has become must-see-TV. The implicit promise—that the fans will see a soon-to-be world champion ascend the ladder and retrieve the briefcase—is a powerful one.

Here are the latest buzz and rumors as this historic PPV draws near.

Dalton Castle to NXT?

1 of 3

According to a recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t WrestlingInc), Ring of Honor wrestler Dalton Castle may be headed to WWE once his contract with Ring of Honor expires this summer.

As a billion dollar company, WWE can surely afford to pay him and accommodate him, so it might be difficult for ROH, or any other promotion for that matter, to match whatever he's being offered.

If true, it's part of a larger pattern of WWE raiding smaller promotions for key talent. One might wonder how their homegrown NXT talent is performing if they're being passed over for more established names. One might also wonder if this will cause a backup of talent when NXT inevitably attempts to move some of these wrestlers to the main roster.

As it is, the company can't figure out how to feature Raw's entire roster on a three-hour weekly show. Is there a plan, especially with the new signees, to make it more equitable?

Hardys on Hiatus?

2 of 3

The Hardys are currently the most over tag tam on either WWE weekly show. Nostalgia is a powerful thing, and Matt Hardy's recent "broken" shenanigans give the duo a chance at solo pushes, if WWE ever decides to go that route.

It seems, however, that Hardy fans may have to wait a little bit longer. According to Mike Johnson of PW Insider, the Hardys will be working a reduced schedule for the next several weeks. Matt Hardy's wife, Rebecca, will be giving birth to the couple's second child, which puts any long-term booking plans temporarily on hold.

Hopefully, in the Hardys' limited absence, another tag team will rise to the challenge of filling the vacuum. As fun as the Hardys are to watch, they are not a long-term plan; they are veterans who are already showing signs of wear and tear.

Hideo Itami on His Way Out?

3 of 3

Hideo Itami was supposed to be NXT's big breakout star. But instead, he sat on the bench, injured, and watched other wrestlers, like Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens and Shinsuke Nakamura, pass him by.

Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats reported that after Itami's current contract expires later this year, Itami might part ways with the company.

If true, it'll be a disappointing conclusion to what has been a disappointing run. It goes to show that a person can do everything right, put themselves in the best position to succeed and still come up short.

In a business as physical as professional wrestling, a large part of who gets over, who gets pushed and who does not comes down to dumb luck. And Itami has been in short supply of it.
