Shelvin Mack Reportedly Finalizing 2-Year, $12 Million Contract with Magic

Rob GoldbergJul 7, 2017

Free agent Shelvin Mack is reportedly set to make another move as he finalizes a two-year, $12 million contract with the Orlando Magic.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN first reported details of the contract terms Friday.

The point guard has had a well-traveled career to this point, playing for four different franchises in six seasons. However, his last year-and-a-half with the Utah Jazz clearly represented his best time in the NBA.

In 83 regular-season games across two seasons, Mack averaged 9.5 points and 3.7 assists per game in Utah, starting 36 contests. He even started three of the team's nine postseason games this past season.

"He was a bulldog, offensively," Jazz coach Quin Snyder said of Mack during the playoffs, per Lynn Worthy of the Salt Lake Tribune. "He was fearless. You're not always going to make the right play, but I've had confidence in Shelvin for a long time. That hasn't wavered."

Although he doesn't always put up big numbers and is an inconsistent shooter from the perimeter, the 27-year-old is a solid defender who can run an offense well.

He will now provide some much-needed depth in the backcourt for the Magic as a reserve contributor who helps on both ends of the court. His added experience over the past year should also serve him well.

Mack should compete with D.J. Augustin to become the first guard off the bench in Orlando.
