Trey Mancini Joins 3 Other Former Rookies with Historical Home Run Binge
Baltimore Orioles rookie slugger Trey Mancini finished Sunday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays 3-for-5 with two home runs, four RBI and two runs scored.
That marked the second time this season Mancini has collected multiple home runs in a game. In doing so, he joined the ranks of Carlos May, Jose Abreu and Trevor Story as the four first-year players to tally at least two multihomer games in April, per the Elias Sports Bureau (via ESPN.com).
The 25-year-old debuted with the Orioles late last season after starting his pro career in the minors in 2013 and has now collected seven home runs in his first 12 career major league games. Considering the most he's tallied in an entire season was 23 (last year) entering this season, it seems highly likely his pace will slow drastically in the future.

Mancini exclusively played first base on his rise up the minor league ranks but has shown flexibility by starting three games in a corner outfield spot early in 2017. He has also served as the club's designated hitter with Chris Davis blocking his path to starts at first. Davis remains under contract with the team through 2021, so Mancini may be limited to DH duties unless he can learn to play effectively in the outfield.
The youngster will get a chance to continue his early-season offensive explosion Tuesday when the Orioles open a series against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ballpark.
