Rising Pune Supergiants vs. Mumbai Indians
Supergiants, 187 for three (Smith 84, Rahane 60) beat Indians, 184 for eight (Buttler 38, Pandya 35) by seven wickets (with one ball remaining).
Pune won the toss and elected to field first, and Mumbai immediately shocked the fans, with Rohit Sharma not coming out to bat. Instead, Jos Buttler teamed up with Parthiv Patel.

The duo got off to a good start but soon ran into Imran Tahir, who would end up with three wickets and concede 28 runs through four overs. Buttler, Patel and Sharma were all dismissed by the veteran.
Rising Pune's bowlers did well during the middle overs and seemed to be on their way to keeping the Indians to a reasonable total. But a late surge from Mumbai saw Kieron Pollard score 27 from 17 and Hardik Pandya add 35 not out.
The final over was a brutal one, as Dinda couldn't find his range and gave up a staggering 30 runs. Per sports writer Freddie Wilde, his total numbers were dreadful:
It also gave Indians a far better total, and history didn't like Supergiants' chances in the chase:
Ajinkya Rahane got off to a flying start in the chase, however, and would score 60 from 34 before he was caught by Nitish Rana.
Mayank Agarwal couldn't match his partner, but his replacement Smith found a rhythm early, pushing the chase in the right direction. The 27-year-old added a half-century of his own and just kept on pushing, finishing with an unbeaten 84 from 54.
The required run rate fluctuated throughout the final overs, but Smith, Ben Stokes and MS Dhoni kept their calm, with Smith smashing a six off Pollard to win the match.
Per ESPN Cricinfo, Mumbai's Sharma rightly praised the match-winner:
"I thought Smith batted really well. The kind of form he is in, he just took off from where he left. The fielding didn't really help us. This is our first game and there is a lot of learning from this.
Both bring very similar things to the table and Mitch McClenaghan has done very well for us which is why we picked him ahead of Mitchell Johnson. Mahela brings a lot of experience to the table, but we have a great squad and I am sure we will bounce back.
"
Gujarat Lions and Kolkata Knight Riders will kick off their IPL campaigns on Friday.
