Sam Dekker Undergoes Surgery on Injured Hand, Will Be Evaluated in 1 Week
Houston Rockets forward Sam Dekker had surgery on his left hand to repair a fracture, the team announced Monday.
The doctor who performed the procedure will re-evaluate Dekker in a week.
Early Monday morning, the 22-year-old expressed optimism he'll be back in time for the playoffs:
"What a start by @troywilliams_ !!! Proud of him. I'll be back for the big ones in the playoffs, thanks for the love Red Nation.
— Sam Dekker (@dekker) April 3, 2017"
The Houston Chronicle's Jonathan Feigen reported Sunday the early diagnosis projected Dekker to be out three to four weeks. Perhaps encouraging results during his re-evaluation next week could speed up the time line.
A first-round pick in 2015, Dekker is averaging 6.5 points and 3.7 rebounds a game. He's also shooting 32.1 percent from three-point range.
The former Wisconsin star isn't an integral piece of the Rockets' title hopes in 2016-17, but a team's depth is tested in the postseason. A healthy Dekker would be a nice luxury for Houston as it looks to dethrone the Golden State Warriors for Western Conference supremacy.
