James Harden Becomes 1st Player to Score and Assist on 2,000 Points in Season
Houston Rockets guard James Harden's unprecedented combination of scoring and playmaking earned him a special place in NBA history on Tuesday night.
During Houston's game against the Golden State Warriors, Harden assisted on his 2,000th point this season, making him the first NBA player ever to score 2,000 points and assist on 2,000 more, according to SportsCenter.
Harden entered Tuesday night with a league-leading 11.3 assists per game, and he's averaging a career-high 29.4 points this season as well.
Harden and Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook are locked in one of the tighter MVP races in recent years. In most seasons, averaging a triple-double would be enough for Westbrook to be the runaway favorite. Harden, however, has built a strong MVP case for himself.
Although Tuesday night's record is relatively obscure, it illustrates how effective the Rockets star has been offensively this year.
