Dwyane Wade Out for Season After Elbow Injury Diagnosed as Fracture
Chicago Bulls guard Dwyane Wade was ruled out for the remainder of the 2016-17 regular season Thursday due to an elbow injury.
The Bulls announced the news after an MRI revealed a small fracture in Wade's elbow.
Per ESPN.com's Nick Friedell, Wade was spotted at practice Thursday with a cast or brace on his injured elbow.
The 35-year-old veteran left Wednesday's loss to the Memphis Grizzlies in the fourth quarter after suffering the injury.
Per Cody Westerlund of CBS Chicago, Wade was concerned after hearing his elbow pop:
"I knew it was something a little bit more just because of what I heard. I tried to play through it a little bit until the pain started getting a little bit more excruciating.
My concern level is there's only 14 games left, and I've never had this injury, so I can't say two days, two weeks. I don't know. I know Jimmy [Butler] had something similar to this before. I talked to him, and I don't like what he had to say about this. That's my concern, is that we're trying to make the playoffs and there's only 14 games left. It's my shooting arm too.
"
In his first season with the Bulls, Wade is second on the team in scoring with 18.6 points per game and is also averaging 4.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists.
Chicago is just 3-7 over its past 10 games, and it trails the eighth-seeded Detroit Pistons by one game for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Wade's status is unclear should the Bulls manage to reach the postseason, but the team did not rule out a return.
Chicago is lacking in true shooting guards, which means Rajon Rondo and Michael Carter-Williams may be forced to see the court together often in Wade's absence. Denzel Valentine and Jerian Grant could receive more minutes as well.
