49ers Rumors: Conflicting Reports Surround SF's Interest in Mike Glennon
Ahead of free agency, it is unclear if the San Francisco 49ers will pursue quarterback Mike Glennon.
On Sunday, Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee said the 49ers would be interested in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers free agent if they cannot trade for Washington signal-caller Kirk Cousins. Such a move would be costly considering Charles Robinson of Yahoo cited multiple sources Sunday who said Glennon's contract is "expected to land between $14-15 million per season."
However, Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reported Tuesday that "the 49ers have no interest in signing Glennon to take over as quarterback."

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Barrows pointed out San Francisco is limited in time if it plans on trading for Cousins with free agency starting Thursday since wide receivers will likely want to see who will be under center after Colin Kaepernick opted out of his contract to join Blaine Gabbert in free agency, per Joe Fann of the team's official website.
Barrows said Matt Schaub and Brian Hoyer are also candidates for the 49ers' job.
As for Glennon, Pro Football Focus gave him a grade of 69.0 in its free-agency tracker, well below Cousins' 85.9 or Hoyer's 81.1.
San Francisco would be betting on upside more than anything else with the North Carolina State product because he has appeared in just 21 games throughout his NFL career and a total of two since 2014.
He was the primary starter for Tampa Bay in 2013 and finished with a 59.4 completion percentage, 2,608 passing yards, 19 touchdown throws and nine interceptions in 13 games and has 30 touchdown passes to 15 interceptions in his career.
New 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan helped guide the Atlanta Falcons to the Super Bowl with the league's highest-scoring offense as offensive coordinator but won't have Matt Ryan at his disposal in the Bay Area. He needs a quarterback in San Francisco to turn around an offense that finished 27th in the league in points per game in 2016.
Glennon may not have the experience to garner such a rich contract offer, but the expression "beggars can't be choosers" comes to mind here. The quarterback position is a serious question mark as the 49ers look to close the gap with the Seattle Seahawks and the rest of the NFC West, and Glennon could provide a potential answer if Cousins isn't an option.
