Zlatan Ibrahimovic Comments on Manchester United Future After EFL Cup Win

Christopher SimpsonFeb 27, 2017

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has not confirmed whether he will stay at Manchester United next season, leaving the door open for an Old Trafford exit.

Per the Mirror's David McDonnell, the Red Devils striker said:

"

Let's see what happens. [...] We have another two months of the season to go because, according to many, I couldn't do what I've been doing.

I came here and the club wasn't in the Champions League. So it had nothing to do with the Champions League.

He added: "In my head I'm never satisfiedI always want more, I'm hungry to do more. That's my mentality. I'm not satisfied with what I'm doingI always want more."

The 35-year-old further explained that he plans to finish his career "on top" and does not want to carry on when he can no longer have the same influence on the game.

Ibrahimovic joined United on a free transfer in the summer, but he has the option to extend his stay by another year.

Per Miguel Delaney of The Independent, United boss Jose Mourinho is hoping the Swede exercises that option:

It's understandable given he's already had a significant impact on the team's success since his arrival:

Indeed, the forward scored twice on Sunday to help the Red Devils to a 3-2 win over Southampton in the EFL Cup final, opening the scoring with a free-kick before heading home an 87th-minute winner.

ESPN's Alex Shaw and Hesham Bilal-Hafiz of the Manchester Evening News hailed Ibrahimovic for his efforts:

His brace took his tally to 26 goals for the season in all competitions, including 15 in 24 Premier League games.

Ibrahimovic is not only United's most potent attacking threat, he's also crucial to the cause for his impact in the dressing room.

As one of the most decorated players to play the game and one who's never lacked self-belief or personality, his swagger seems to have rubbed off on his team-mates after they fell well short of the standard set by Sir Alex Ferguson under David Moyes and Louis van Gaal.

Mourinho has also played a significant part, but keeping Ibrahimovic for another year will boost their chances of winning further silverware next season.
