Points for the Golden Shoe table are calculated by the number of goals multiplied by difficulty factor—determined by the league in which the goals are scored.
Goals scored in the Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A and Primeira Liga are worth two points, while in Ligue 1, goals are multiplied by 1.5.
Messi rescues Barca again
Atletico had looked set to frustrate Luis Enrique's Barcelona side at the Vicente Calderon Stadium until Messi reacted quickest to divert the ball past goalkeeper Jan Oblak.
It was Barca's second successive 2-1 La Liga victory, having defeated Leganes by the same scoreline on Feb. 19 thanks again to Messi, who netted twice.
Sky Sports highlighted the striker's particular penchant for scoring against Atletico on Twitter:
Over in Ligue 1, Cavani added PSG's second against Marseille to take his tally to 26 goals this season and keep up pressure on the Golden Shoe top spot.
Bundesliga front-runners Bayern destroyed Hamburg, and Lewandowski surged up the Golden Shoe charts with a stunning hat-trick.
After rescuing his side with a 96th-minute equaliser against Hertha Berlin in Bayern's last league match, Lewandowski was bang on the mark once more to put lowly Hamburg to the sword.
The result left Bayern five points clear at the top of the Bundesliga, and with 19 goals, Lewandowski's treble now sees him share the league's top scorer honours with Dortmund rival Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Poland international was clearly pleased to keep his good run of form going:
Another notable mover up the Golden Shoe table was Spurs striker Harry Kane.
His first-half treble against Stoke City at White Hart Lane was his third in nine matches and takes him level with Premier League rivals Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez.
