Derrick Favors Reportedly a Trade Target for Phoenix Suns Ahead of 2017 Deadline

Mike ChiariFeb 21, 2017

In the midst of a down season, Utah Jazz power forward Derrick Favors has reportedly become a trade target for the Phoenix Suns

According to Tony Jones of the Salt Lake Tribune, the Jazz are willing to listen to offers for Favors, but there isn't a high likelihood they'll move him.

Favors is having his worst statistical season since 2012-13, as he is averaging just 9.2 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.

He has also missed several games this season due to a knee injury.

The 25-year-old enjoyed what was arguably his best campaign to date in 2015-16, as he put up a career-high 16.4 points per contest to go along with 8.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks.

Despite his significant dip in play, the Jazz have been much better overall as a team this season, as they are fifth in the Western Conference with a record of 35-22.

The Jazz have some quality depth behind Favors at power forward in the form of youngster Trey Lyles and veteran Boris Diaw.

Favors is a big-time contributor when healthy and on top of his game, however, which makes trading him seem unlikely unless immediate backcourt help arrives in return.

Perhaps the biggest argument in favor of trading the former No. 3 overall draft pick is the fact that his contract expires following next season, but for a team that hasn't reached the playoffs since 2011-12, making a postseason run figures to be the No. 1 priority.
