Grizzlies Trick Fans into Discussing Zach Randolph's Slam Dunk Contest Chances
Anyone who has ever watched the Memphis Grizzlies' Zach Randolph play basketball knows he would never receive an invitation to the NBA's Slam Dunk Contest.
The old-school, bruising power forward barely leaves the ground to shoot a jumper, so he wouldn't fare well in the annual All-Star event.
With that in mind, the Memphis Grizzlies and their own Alexis Morgan tested NBA fans' gullibility by asking about Randolph's chances to win the competition Saturday night at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.
Some took the bait.
It's the oldest trick in the late-night comedy book. Ask people about a fictional scenario on camera and ridicule the ones who don't know enough about the topic to debunk the falsehood.
Seemingly scared of appearing out of the loop, All-Star Weekend attendees admired Randolph's dunking prowess.
One was fond of his windmill jams. Another said he should try dunking from the free-throw line. Of course, there's a better chance scientists will decide the Earth is flat.
The segment's final cut likely left out many people who noticed the ruse. To one group's credit, two people gave Morgan a befuddled stare before one dismissed the possibility of his emerging victorious.
