WWE Raw Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from December 5

Erik BeastonDec 6, 2016

The Dec. 5 episode of WWE Raw was a master class in poor booking decisions, worse show layout and quizzical matchmaking at a time when the brand should be focused on presenting the best broadcast possible to entice fans to be excited for the upcoming Roadblock: End of the Line pay-per-view.

Still, for everything wrong about the show, there were still a few stars who emerged as legitimate winners, the centerpieces of the night's few redeeming segments.

Then there were the Superstars most hurt by the decisions made in the writers' room, the losers from this week.

Monday Night RAW

Who fell on which side? Let's take a look.

Seth RollinsWinnerThe Architect looked like a star from the start of the show and planted the seeds for his upcoming feud with Triple H, which should lead to a high-profile WrestleMania battle.
The New DayWinnerCharacter development? Try being the fun-loving tag champions for 400 days, feeling the pressure of expectations and then cheating to ensure history is made. The subtlety and slow burn of the change in demeanor has been a revelation, and The New Day's involvement in Monday's match between Karl Anderson, Luke Gallows, Sheamus and Cesaro continued that pattern.
Big Show and Mark HenryLosersSpecial attractions, yes, but shouldn't their appearances mean more than throwaway segments on a wholly forgettable episode of Raw?

Biggest Winner: Kevin Owens

He is still not a strong or compelling champion, but Owens' character development on Monday night was a nice change of pace.

Fully recognizing that he needs the support of Chris Jericho to help him escape from major championship matches unscathed, Owens looked to smooth over the hurt feelings from last week's show by imploring Stephanie McMahon to grant him a few "gifts" for his best friend.

First, he got Y2J a United States Championship match against Roman Reigns. If that was not enough, he also got his tag team partner a one-on-one match with Seth Rollins at Roadblock so that he could avenge the Pedigree he suffered the week before.

His ego was so big, though, that Owens ruined the title opportunity by accidentally distracting Jericho long enough for Reigns to deliver a spear that sealed his fate.

Owens' selfishness is apparent and is on its way to costing him the closest friend he has ever had in WWE. While their friendship may make for entertaining television, their breakup and presumed feud could be just what the doctor ordered in terms of lighting a fire under the Raw main event scene.

Biggest Loser: WWE Creative

On a night when the Raw writers needed an episode that sold fans on the seemingly throwaway Roadblock pay-per-view, they fumbled the ball, presenting an episode that featured too much filler, nonsensical booking choices and a show-closing segment that failed to follow up on the extraordinary main event from a week earlier.

The reintroduction of Ric Flair to the Charlotte-Sasha Banks storyline takes the focus off the women and admits that the creative team cannot come up with a suitable final chapter without invoking the name of the two-time Hall of Famer.

Big Show and Mark Henry, two future Hall of Famers, were brought out of mothballs for no other reason than to get their mugs back on television in the most insulting, throwaway manners possible.

Big Show's match with Rollins, in particular, made no sense whatsoever. The giant, a former pawn in The Authority's game of chess and a rival of Mick Foley's during the Attitude Era, was so eager to step through the curtain to wage war with The Architect, a man he has no real beef with?

Add to that the mess of an angle featuring Enzo Amore, Rusev and Lanain which The Bulgarian Brute took exception to Amore's attraction to his wife by using her in a sexual manner to set him upand you have a show that was inconsistent and far from compelling.

Luckily, the same team that concocted such a flawed three hours of television Monday night has one last opportunity to put together a broadcast that makes Roadblock feel like a much more significant show than it actually is.
