Brown Struggling to Duplicate Impressive 2015 Campaign
He was also diagnosed with a sickle cell trait in late October, a condition that makes muscle breakdown more likely for carriers who undertake heavy exercise, per Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com. However, those with the sickle cell trait generally "don't exhibit symptoms of sickle cell disease."
Brown had one catch for 19 yards against Atlanta. Entering Week 13, he had 31 catches for 399 yards and a score in 10 contests.
The 26-year-old appeared poised for a huge year after notching 65 receptions for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns in his sophomore campaign. That hasn't transpired in 2016, however—a regression Mike Clay of ESPN simply didn't expect:
Arizona's offense, outside of superstar running back David Johnson, simply hasn't been as dangerous as it was a year ago, which is perhaps one reason for Brown's disappointing season. And while Larry Fitzgerald has clearly been the top option, the wide receiving corps has been diluted after that, with Brown, Michael Floyd, J.J. Nelson and Jaron Brown all earning meaningful snaps and targets this year.
Nelson even earned a promotion to the No. 2 receiver position in November.
Brown still came into Week 12 against Atlanta third on the Cardinals in receptions, targets and receiving yards. But he simply hasn't made the same dynamic impact as he did in 2015.
