WWE Survivor Series 2016 Results: Worst Booking Decisions from PPV
With some historic matches, creative storytelling and shock results, WWE Survivor Series 2016 was a pay-per-view that won't be forgotten in a hurry—but it wasn't all good.
As is often the case, there were a couple of booking decisions which seemed particularly strange, not least because they created some real missed opportunities for the wrestlers involved.
Whether it was the failure of one wrestler to capture a title or even a move which could have had ramifications for a whole group of stars, WWE definitely made some booking mistakes on Sunday night.
Time will tell how fatal these decisions end up being. But for now, here's a look at the decisions which just didn't feel right.
The Cruiserweights Staying on Raw
1 of 3If the plan all along was for The Brian Kendrick to keep hold of the WWE Cruiserweight Championship, there still could have been a way to get the entire division on SmackDown with Kendrick as its leader.
Kendrick could have easily been disqualified, thus losing the match and bringing in the stipulation that the cruiserweights would move from SmackDown to Raw.
But instead, WWE had Kendrick win the match via DQ—and it all felt a bit wrong.
With 205 Live starting Nov. 29 immediately after SmackDown, having all that division on the blue brand to tee up the new show felt like the only logical decision worth making in this match.
Instead, the cruiserweights are all going to be on Raw before heading to the SmackDown tapings the next night and filming a show which won't have much momentum behind it.
The cruiserweight division should have definitely earned a move on Sunday night.
Having Nia Jax Tap Out
2 of 3
It's fair to say Nia Jax was on a real mission at the start of Sunday's traditional Survivor Series match involving WWE's female competitors.
She looked in great form, and since she had been slightly held back since her main-roster debut earlier this year, it looked like fans were going to see the emergence of Jax as a major player in Raw's women's division.
With WWE opting to start the build for Charlotte vs. Bayley, it was obvious that Jax had to leave the match before its conclusion. But she could have been disqualified or taken down by a number of the SmackDown women, with both of those options keeping her looking relatively strong.
Instead, she was made to submit to SmackDown's Becky Lynch, which didn't feel right.
It looks like Jax will enter a feud with Sasha Banks in the coming weeks. Thankfully, that should be a high-profile rivalry which makes fans forget about her elimination on Sunday night.
It looked like Jax was going to be the star of the entire match at one point, but a pretty timid exit left her stock lower than it really should have been.
Sami Zayn Losing
3 of 3Sunday night felt like a golden opportunity for Sami Zayn's WWE career.
His time on the main roster hasn't yet clicked into gear, but when he was given the chance to win the Intercontinental Championship against The Miz at Survivor Series, it felt like the right time to kick on.
But unfortunately, he came up short—and it looks like despite being screwed out of the belt, he won't even get another shot.
A feud with Braun Strowman now seems on the cards for Zayn, and it's hard to work out how his fortunes have changed so drastically in just a couple of days.
He could have done great things with the Intercontinental Championship—he could have even taken it back to SmackDown if the decision was based on not having the blue brand lose the belt.
But instead, it feels like Zayn is back to square one.
