Ingram Struggling to Shake Injury Bug
He was questionable for Week 12 after suffering a concussion, but Ingram played and lit up the Rams to the tune of 146 rushing yards, 21 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Injuries have been a problem for Ingram throughout his NFL career. He has missed at least three games in each of the previous three seasons, only reaching the 16-game mark once in five seasons.
Weirdly, while the injuries have piled up for Ingram since 2013, he's actually had the most success during that span. His 5.3 yards per carry this season is the highest mark of his career.
Overall, Ingram has 721 rushing yards, 248 receiving yards and seven total touchdowns thus far in 2016.
The Saints do have veteran running back Tim Hightower to take Ingram's place if Ingram is limited moving forward. He's fared well in limited duty this season, even breaking the 100-yard barrier against the Seattle Seahawks.
It also helps the Saints that their offense isn't dependent on the run to succeed. Quarterback Drew Brees is accustomed to throwing the ball 40-plus times each week because the defense struggles to stop opponents.
Ingram's presence does add a dimension to the offense that isn't easily replaced, but Brees gives the Saints the ability to score points with any team in the NFL and ensures they should be competitive against the Lions this week even if Ingram is limited.
