Floyd Mayweather: 'Never Compare Conor McGregor to Me, It's a Total Disrespect'
Floyd Mayweather doesn't like being compared to newly minted two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor. He doesn't like it one bit.
Speaking with TMZ Sports, Mayweather threw several verbal jabs McGregor's way:
While Mayweather may be comparing 10-ounce apples to four-ounce oranges, he did reinvent boxing with his success both in and out of the ring.
In 2006, he bought out his contract with Top Rank and transformed himself into the undisputed king of pay-per-view and the most successful pugilist in history.
McGregor has done amazing things in the context of MMA, including becoming the first man to hold two UFC titles at the same time, setting the company's pay-per-view buyrate record and likely breaking it again at UFC 205.
Those accomplishments, however, are directly tied to a single promotion, which wasn't the case with Mayweather.
That may change depending on how McGregor's next meeting with UFC brass goes, as he's angling for a piece of the entire promotional pie. If he pulls it off, the comparisons between he and Mayweather will become a lot more legitimate.
