Mebane's Injury Is Latest In Long Line of Major Injuries to Chargers
This is a huge blow for the Chargers defense, as Mebane was a significant presence in the middle of San Diego's defensive line.
However, it is just one of a long list of injuries the team has had to deal with this year.
According to Pro-Football-Reference.com, San Diego has 15 players on injured reserve already, including defensive tackles Caraun Reid and Zamir Carlis.
Through 10 games this season, Mebane recorded 21 total tackles, one sack and one interception, although the Chargers defense has given up the 14th-most total yards in the league.
Mebane's ability to clog up the line cannot be blamed, however, as San Diego's run defense has allowed just 988 yards this season. Only five teams in the NFL have allowed fewer yards on the ground.
The 31-year-old was in his first season with the Chargers, signing a three-year, $13.5 million deal during the offseason after nine years with the Seattle Seahawks.
This is the second time in three years that Mebane will miss significant time due to injury. In 2014 with the Seahawks, he missed the final seven games of the season due to a pulled hamstring.
