Knile Davis to Chiefs: Latest Contract Details, Comments and Reaction

Adam WellsNov 5, 2016

Knile Davis' 2016 tour of the NFL has landed him back with the Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs announced Davis' signing on their official Twitter account Saturday.

Davis started this season with the Chiefs, appearing in four games for the team, before Kansas City traded him to the Green Bay Packers on October 18.

The Packers seemed to present Davis with an opportunity for more playing time. Starting running back Eddie Lacy had ankle surgery and was placed on injured reserve, possibly ending his season.

However, after getting just five carries in two games, Davis was waived by the Packers and claimed by the New York Jets on November 1. One day later, the Jets released him to make room on the roster for C.J. Spiller

The Chiefs had an opening at running back when they placed Jamaal Charles on injured reserve earlier this week after he underwent surgery to repair lingering problems in his knee.

While Davis does keep getting opportunities in the NFL, Nathan Jahnke of Pro Football Focus may have pinpointed one reason why he's unable to offer much on the field:

With the trade deadline recently passed and options for help being limited, the Chiefs had to find someone who already knew their system and could step in quickly.

Davis isn't going to radically alter Kansas City's offense in his second stint with the team. However, he makes sense as a roster addition, given his understanding of head coach Andy Reid's offense and his rapport with everyone else in the locker room.
