McClain Reportedly Will be Suspended Again
Sunday, Nov. 20
ESPN's Adam Schefter, citing sources, reported that "McClain is being suspended for another year, on top of the 10-game suspension that was scheduled to end Monday, and there now are doubts he ever will get to play again in the NFL after recently missing yet another drug test."
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirmed Schefter's report.
Jones Comments on McClain's Status
Thursday, Nov. 17
Owner Jerry Jones said McClain will not join the Dallas Cowboys when his suspension is lifted, per Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
On Nov. 1 Jones told 105.3 The Fan, per Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, that he's leaving the door open regarding the linebacker's return to the team. "I don’t want to dismiss possibly [McClain]," Jones said, according to Davison.
Davison added that while McClain has been allowed to work out at the Cowboys facility and attend team meetings during his suspension, he has opted to stay away.
Suspension Casts Doubt on McClain's Future with Cowboys
McClain's future with the team has been in doubt since news of his second suspension broke, and an August report from the Dallas Morning News' Brandon George and David Moore fueled speculation that the 27-year-old wouldn't return to the Cowboys.
George and Moore reported "the door remains open" for a return, but noted "club officials aren't optimistic he'll walk through it."
On Nov. 1, Davison reported a Cowboys player said McClain "keeps changing his number." However, another disclosed he "heard through the grapevine" that McClain has been working out away from the team's practice facility.
